CONTROL. INFLUENCE. RELEASE.
YOUR CROSSROAD: CONTROLYou may be carrying more than is actually yours to carry. When something matters to us, it is easy to confuse caring deeply with being responsible for the outcome. But there is a difference between what you can control, what you can influence, and what you may need to release. This practice is designed to help you see that difference. THE PRACTICEThink about the situation that has been taking up the most space in your mind lately. Then divide a page into three sections: CONTROLWhat can you directly choose or do? These are things that genuinely belong to you: your actions, words, preparation, boundaries, effort, and decisions. Write down everything that is actually within your control. INFLUENCEWhat can you affect—but not determine? You may be able to ask, encourage, prepare, negotiate, communicate, or offer help. But another person, circumstance, or outcome ultimately has a life of its own. Write those things here. RELEASEWhat are you carrying that you cannot control or reliably influence? This might include:
Write them down. Then look at this third list and ask: What would change if I stopped treating these things as my responsibility? ONE STEPNow return to your Control list. Choose one useful action that is available to you today. Not the action that guarantees the outcome. The action that is simply yours to take. Do that. And let the rest remain where it belongs. Do what is yours. Release what isn’t. You don’t have to solve everything today.
